1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice
1/3 cup beef broth
1 orange, juiced and zested
1/3 cup chopped fresh chives
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
1 teaspoon brown pepper
1 cup shredded lettuce
2 cups sliced fresh tomatoes
In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, salt, lime juice, broth and orange zest. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and stir in chives, chili powder, hot pepper sauce and beef bouillon. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium-low, and stir in lettuce. Cook about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
When the soup has reached a simmer, mix together white sugar, beef broth, orange juice, chives, chili powder, hot pepper sauce and bouillon. Bring to a full boil, and cook 1 minute. Reduce heat to medium low, and stir in tomatoes. Return to a boil, and add juice. Cover, and simmer about 15 minutes more, stirring occasionally.
