1 pound ground beef
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
3 teaspoons lemon juice
1 1/2 cups fresh spinach
1 onion, diced
2 carrots, diced
5 hamburger buns, sliced
Mix ground beef, cheese, egg and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce in a large pot. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Drain off grease, reserving 1/2 cup of grease. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice. Stir the spinach and onion into the pot and cover. Continue to cook over medium heat until wilted, about 15 minutes.
Place hamburger buns on a warm sheet or dish and gently brush with remaining grease. Make a well in the center of the buns and pour in cheese, onion and carrot juice.
Arrange large hamburger strips on one side of the bread. Pull fabric over the meat strips and seal edges of holes. Secure with toothpicks. Brush with remaining 2 cups water, place hamburger strips on each layer. Repeat with Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato paste, and hamburger mixture.
Broil briefly on one side. Reduce heat to medium heat and continue broiling on another side for about 2 minutes. Transfer to both plates.
